A Bouillon Castle poster seen from high on the valley side: the grey stone fortress riding a rock spur, the slate-roofed village tucked beneath it, and the river swinging through the forest in a long steel-blue curve.
About the artwork
This one is all depth. The viewpoint is above the treetops, so the river enters at the bottom right, bends left, and narrows away into the distance, its surface a flat blue-grey speckled with tiny light strokes where the current catches. The castle sits at the pivot, drawn with square towers, crenellated walls, a domed turret and the long ridge of the keep, all in warm grey with darker window slots, its base merging into the exposed rock of the spur. Below and to the right the village is a tight cluster of pale walls and blue-grey roofs stepping down to the water. Everything else is woodland, and it is built from layer on layer of tree canopy in at least six greens, from near-black in the shadowed foreground boughs to a hazy blue-green on the far ridges. A few pale limestone outcrops break the trees on the right bank. The sky is a thin pale strip at the very top. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Belgium beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- An aerial view, not a postcard one. Looking down the valley gives the print real distance.
- A forest built in layers. The greens recede properly, which is what makes the depth work.
- A castle drawn in detail. Towers, ramparts and roofs are all legible at arm's length.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Deep, wooded and slightly sombre, this is a print for rooms with weight: a study, a panelled hallway, a home office, a library corner. It looks best against deep green, ink blue, olive or warm grey paint, alongside walnut, leather, brass and old books. A black or dark walnut frame suits it far better than pale oak. Hang it with the Vianden Castle or Egeskov Castle designs for a set of European castles that share its green-and-stone palette.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the viewpoint? From the wooded ridge across the valley, looking down on the castle rock with the river bend leading the eye into the distance.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
