A Bodie ghost town California poster looking across a high desert basin at what is left of a gold boomtown. A rusted maroon coupe sits nose-down in the sagebrush, its running boards half buried. Behind it a two-storey timber house with a brick chimney still stands, and a scatter of grey board cabins runs off toward low blue hills under a stack of afternoon cumulus.
About the artwork
Painted with soft airbrushed modelling rather than flat vector shapes: the clouds are built from dozens of separately lit lobes, and every sagebrush clump in the foreground is drawn individually. The colour is a desert palette against a hard sky — ochre and straw grass, grey-green sage, sun-bleached brown board-and-batten timber, and one oxblood red car as the only saturated accent. Above the basin, a deep teal blue sky that darkens toward the top edge. The distant hills fade to dusty slate blue. Lettering is set across the lower band in white condensed capitals: BODIE STATE HISTORIC PARK, with STATE PARK and CALIFORNIA in smaller caps beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- An abandoned town, not a landscape — the subject is the buildings and the car, so it reads differently from every mountain or coast print on the wall next to it.
- The car does the storytelling — one 1930s coupe rusting in the brush dates the town's end better than any caption.
- Arrested decay, kept honest — the timber is weathered and leaning, not restored and tidy, which is exactly how Bodie is preserved.
- Warm ground, cold sky — the ochre and sage foreground against deep teal gives the print contrast without a single bright colour.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The straw and sage tones sit well on a warm white, putty or clay wall, and the oxblood car finds any rust or leather already in the room. A study or home office suits it, hung near a wood desk. In the walnut-frame photograph above you can see how a darker frame pulls out the weathered timber; a natural oak frame instead lifts the ochre grass.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Go to 24" x 36" if you want the cabins in the middle distance to stay legible. At 16" x 24" the coupe and the main house still read well, which is enough for a desk wall or a gallery grouping.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Framed canvas comes ready to hang in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The main line reads BODIE STATE HISTORIC PARK, with a second line below reading STATE PARK and CALIFORNIA. There is no other text or date on the sheet.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
