A Great Wave print for the bathroom, where water on the wall makes sense. A blue-gray wave curls in from the left corner, a round red-orange sun sits on open white, and a small Mount Fuji waits far off. It feels clean and light, with just enough color to wake up a tiled room.
About the artwork
The palette is short: blue-gray line work for the wave, a single red-orange sun, and plenty of white ground. The wave enters from the left corner in curling lines, the sun is a flat round disc, and Mount Fuji sits small in the distance, so much of the sheet stays white and airy. The drawing is woodblock-style and inspired by Hokusai. A small column of Japanese characters runs down the right side as a quiet vertical accent. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- One spot of red. The red-orange sun is the only warm color, so it pulls the eye across a pale bathroom.
- Plenty of white space. The open white ground keeps a small room from feeling crowded.
- Fuji in the distance. A small Mount Fuji behind the wave adds depth without taking over the picture.
- Line work over shading. The blue-gray wave is drawn in lines, which keeps it crisp even at 12" x 18".
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
In a bathroom, hang it above the towel rail or beside the mirror, at eye level from the bath. The blue-gray lines sit well against white subway tile, pale gray paint or a light wood vanity, and the red sun picks up a red or terracotta towel. A 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" size fits most bathroom walls. Choose a white solid wood floating frame for a clean edge. Pair it with a small print of a single red seal to echo the sun.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size works best in a bathroom? Most bathroom walls take 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" comfortably. Go up to 18" x 24" if the print hangs alone on a wide wall above the bath.
What is the Japanese writing on the right side? It is a small column of Japanese characters that works as a vertical design accent. The picture itself is the wave, the sun and Mount Fuji.
Will the red sun clash with a blue bathroom? The red-orange sun is small and sits on white, so it reads as an accent. It works with blue, white or gray tile and picks up any warm towel or rug.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
