A Birmingham Alabama travel poster that puts the city's blast furnace ironworks in the foreground: rust-red stoves, riveted pipework, catwalks and staircases climbing the tower, two grey-brown brick chimneys standing clear of it, and a run of blue-glass downtown high-rises behind. A mown lawn and pale concrete paths lead in from the bottom edge.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration with hard-edged shapes and only a few shadow tones per surface. The palette is narrow and deliberate: oxide red and brick orange across the furnace vessels and ducts, charcoal for the steel framing, sky blue overhead with thin cirrus, cool glass blue on the towers at right, and two greens for the lawn and shrubs. Every ladder rung and rivet line is drawn as a shape, not a texture. The type sits top left, sans-serif and all caps, reading BIRMINGHAM with ALABAMA beneath it in a lighter weight. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Iron, not skyline — the subject is the furnace plant itself, the thing that built the city, rather than a generic downtown view.
- Red against blue — the oxide-red mass and the cool glass towers split the print into two temperatures that hold each other in place.
- Detail that rewards a close look — pipe elbows, hoppers, handrails and stair flights are all drawn individually.
- Reads from across the room — the furnace silhouette is bold enough to carry at 24" and up.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The rust-red core wants a warm ground. It sits well on terracotta or clay-toned walls, and on the walnut sideboard in the photographs above the reds pick each other up. Against plain white the blue sky and glass towers come forward instead, which suits a study or a workshop wall. Leather, brick and blackened metal are its natural companions.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or a bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" keeps the furnace structure legible. For a gallery wall or a narrow hallway, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" is the easier fit.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? BIRMINGHAM across the top, with ALABAMA set below it in smaller capitals. No other text appears on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
