A Benagil Cave poster drawn from inside the chamber: the eye-shaped hole open to blue sky in the domed roof, a second arch on the right looking out to the Atlantic, and a crescent of pale sand meeting water clear enough to read the ripples on the bottom.
About the artwork
The whole print rests on one contrast, hot rock against cold water. The limestone is laid down in flat hard-edged planes: apricot, rust and burnt orange where the sun strikes, deep umber and violet-brown under the overhangs, so the dome reads as carved rather than shaded. Two openings do the structural work. The oval skylight sits slightly off centre and drops a bar of light down the back wall onto a standing pillar of rock; the arch on the right frames a band of open sea and a sliver of the outer cliffs. Below the waterline the palette flips to turquoise and jade, with the surface ripple built from thousands of fine white and pale-blue strokes and the shadow of the arch lying across it in cool blue. The sand in the lower left is warm and almost bare, edged with a thin lace of surf. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The eye in the roof. The opening that makes this cave recognisable at a glance, drawn as the light source for everything else.
- Water you can see through. Turquoise shallows worked in fine linework rather than a flat wash.
- Orange against cyan. Complementary colours at full strength, which is why it holds a wall from across the room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Bathroom, bedroom, anywhere you want a hit of holiday. The turquoise sits well on chalk white, soft grey and pale sea-green walls, and the ochre rock warms a room with a lot of tile or concrete in it. White or pale ash frames keep it airy; black makes the stone read heavier. Rattan, linen and pale oak suit it better than anything glossy. It hangs naturally beside the Saint-Malo or Ibiza prints if you want a coastal trio.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view taken from? From the sand inside the cave itself, looking back at the far wall, with the sea arch on the right and the skylight directly overhead.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
