A Balboa Park San Diego poster looking straight down the Lily Pond to the lath-built dome of the Botanical Building, flanked by two ornate Spanish Colonial towers, with tall palms leaning in from both edges and the whole facade mirrored upside down in still turquoise water.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with hard edges and fine ruled linework across the lath dome and the pond surface, built on a strict central symmetry. The palette runs terracotta and rust through the redwood lath, cream and bone on the carved tower cupolas and finials, deep jade and olive across the palms and hedges, warm sandstone in the foreground paving, and a broad band of turquoise and aqua in the pond, dotted with pink water lilies and flat green pads. Details to look for: the small lantern on top of the dome, three arched doorways under it, the finialled tower cupolas at either side, and long palm shadows falling across the paving. The printed type reads SAN DIEGO above CALIFORNIA in white capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Perfect symmetry — the dome and its reflection make one shape, so the print hangs level with the eye.
- Turquoise as the lead colour — rarer than blue in travel prints, and easy to build a room on.
- A park, not a skyline — palms, lilies and lath instead of towers and traffic.
- Detail that rewards a close look — carved finials, arches and lily pads at full size.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Turquoise and terracotta are already a pair here, so the terracotta wall in the photographs above is an obvious match, as is warm plaster, cream or a soft clay pink. Rattan, unglazed pottery and light oak suit the sandstone tones; brass warms the turquoise without fighting it. It reads well in a bathroom or a sunroom, and above a bed the mirrored composition keeps the wall calm.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The carved stonework and lily pads hold up best from 18" x 27" upward. Above a bed or sofa, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" suits the symmetry.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Matte canvas comes stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The printed type is SAN DIEGO with CALIFORNIA beneath it. Balboa Park and the Lily Pond are not named on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
