This Arenal Volcano Costa Rica poster fills its lower half with rainforest. Tree ferns spread their fronds across the foreground, red heliconia spikes and broad glossy leaves crowd the right edge, and behind them the canopy climbs in dark green waves. Above it a single volcanic cone rises to a pale, sunlit summit, with low blue ridges away to the right.
About the artwork
The drawing is layered flat colour with a fine grain over the sky and the volcano flank, so the cone shades from cream at the summit through sand to a deep teal-green base. The forest below is built from six or more greens, from acid lime on the sunlit fronds to near-black in the hollows, with scarlet flower spikes as the only warm accent. Two leafy branches frame the top corners and keep the eye on the peak, which sits high in the frame under a graded teal sky. The lettering is printed in white: ARENAL VOLCANO above COSTA RICA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A cone with a lit summit — the pale upper slope is the brightest point in the print and pulls the eye straight to it.
- Tree ferns you can count — the foreground fronds are drawn leaflet by leaflet, so the print holds up at close range.
- Green on green with one red note — the heliconia spikes are the only warm colour, which is why they read from across a room.
- Teal sky, not blue — the graded sky gives the whole print a cooler, more graphic feel than a standard landscape.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Deep green and teal carry this one, so it reads best on warm white, bone or clay walls where the foliage stays dark and rich rather than muddy. In a room with real plants it doubles the effect — a rubber plant or monstera beside it picks up the same leaf shapes. Black and espresso frames match the darkest greens and make the pale summit jump; natural oak keeps it softer and suits a bedroom above a bedside table. A single rust or terracotta cushion nearby echoes the red heliconia without adding a new colour.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Why is the top of the volcano pale rather than green? The upper cone is drawn as bare, sun-struck slope in cream and sand, while the forest only covers the lower flanks. That contrast is the whole structure of the picture.
What size should I get? Above a sofa or bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall. For a desk, shelf or gallery grouping, 12" x 18" and 16" x 24" are the easiest to place.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas arrive unframed. The framed canvas option adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
