An Arena di Verona poster from the corner of the square: the pink limestone amphitheatre curving away in two tiers of arches, a wide paved piazza in front of it, and a row of cafe umbrellas with wicker chairs down the right-hand side.
About the artwork
The oval is what the drawing is about. The outer wall bends away from the viewer, so the arches compress as they go, wide and open on the left and narrowing to slivers at the far edge — that squeeze is the only thing needed to tell you the building is round. Each arch is a deep pocket of shadow inside a ring of blocks, and the stone is built up from separate courses in rose, salmon and cream rather than one flat colour. In front, the paving takes the lower third and carries long cold blue shadows raking across it; cool blue over warm pink is the strongest colour idea in the picture. On the right, palazzi with green shutters and iron balconies, then umbrellas, potted shrubs and empty chairs. Small figures cross the square in ones and twos. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A Roman oval, drawn honestly. The curve and the narrowing arches carry the scale without any tricks.
- Blue shadows on pink stone. The temperature clash is what gives the print its heat.
- The cafe terrace. Umbrellas and chairs put an everyday square in front of an ancient wall.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Sunny and open, which makes it a good kitchen, breakfast-room or dining wall. Limewash, cream and pale apricot walls all sit under it comfortably, and it likes woven seat pads, ceramic and pale wood more than anything heavy or dark. A white frame keeps the whole thing light; a slim gold frame picks up the cream in the stone without going ornate. It hangs well with the Grand Canal Venice print for a northern Italian pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Do you see the whole amphitheatre? No — the wall curves out of the frame on the left, and leaving it unfinished is what suggests how big the ring really is.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
