A torn paper face portrait poster in black and white: a photo collage where a vertical rip in pale grey paper reveals one eye, a nose and lips.
About the artwork
The tear runs straight down the center of the sheet, and its curled edges cast soft shadows, so the paper seems to lift off the wall. Only a narrow strip of the face shows through, which makes the single eye feel like it is watching you. Near the bottom, a small rolled scrap of paper carries a handwritten note. A lifelike fly rests on the right side of the sheet, a tiny detail that rewards a closer look. The rest of the surface is flat and empty, which keeps all the tension in that one slit.
Why you'll love it
- A conversation starter. Guests tend to step closer to read the note and spot the fly.
- Minimal, yet not plain. Lots of quiet grey space with one sharp focal point suits a calm room.
- Fits a narrow wall. The tall, vertical tear makes good use of a slim space beside a door.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it in a hallway or above a reading chair, where people pass close enough to catch the small details. A thin black frame echoes the dark gap in the paper, while a white frame keeps the whole piece pale and airy. Pair it with other close-up portraits in a tight grid for a gallery wall with an art-school edge.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is there any writing on it? Yes, a short handwritten note on a small curl of paper near the bottom.
Is the paper really torn? No, the tear and its shadows are part of the printed image, and the surface you receive is smooth.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
