A vintage Tokyo print for a living room with a taste for old city scenes. Vintage cars sit on a street lined with store signs, power lines tangle overhead, and big white clouds fill a blue sky. It feels like an old poster found in a drawer and finally given a wall.
About the artwork
Blue sky and big white clouds open up above a street of vintage cars, crowded utility poles and store signs. Vertical red and blue stripes add a graphic edge borrowed from vintage poster design. The vintage treatment keeps the street details readable without turning them sharp or modern. The lettering reads "東京", "TOKYO", "THE BEATING HEART OF JAPAN" and "1944"; 東京 is simply Tokyo written in Japanese. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- A slogan on the wall. THE BEATING HEART OF JAPAN gives the print a line of text people will read out loud.
- Street detail to explore. Vintage cars, store signs and tangled wires give the eye plenty to find on a second look.
- Big sky, busy street. The open blue sky and white clouds balance the crowded street beneath them.
- Red and blue stripes. The vertical stripes add a graphic accent that ties the sky blue to a warmer red.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it above a leather sofa, a record cabinet or a vintage-style sideboard in the living room. The blue sky and red stripes sit well on a warm white, pale blue or mustard wall, and brown leather or dark wood furniture suits the old-city mood. At 24" x 36" it reads well from across the room; 30" x 40" suits a tall, bare wall. An espresso wood frame adds age. Pair it with a modern Tokyo night print to set old and new side by side.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What does 東京 mean? 東京 is Tokyo written in Japanese, shown on the print alongside the English TOKYO.
What colors are in it? Mostly sky blue and white clouds, with red and blue stripes as accents. It suits warm neutrals and dark wood.
What size suits a tall wall? 30" x 40" fills a tall or double-height wall. For a standard wall above a sofa, 24" x 36" is plenty.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
