This Wave, Arizona watercolor print shows the swirling U-shaped sandstone trough of The Wave, its striped walls curling like a breaking wave in Coyote Buttes. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the formation, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Dense, fine ink lines follow the curves of the trough, layered over terracotta, red and cream washes that build soft stripes. The Wave fills the center, seen from the slope at its north end. Rounded striped sandstone domes of Coyote Buttes rise in the middle ground, and the pale Vermilion Cliffs plateau sits on the horizon. Smooth slickrock and low shrubs fill the foreground. The left edge melts into orange-pink washes with long drips, and crisp clear air suggests mid spring. "THE WAVE" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Flowing stripes. The curving lines are drawn so densely they read almost like a printed pattern.
- Photographer in frame. Three small hikers stand in the trough, one raising a camera to the rock.
- Butter-yellow layers. Pale yellow bands soften the terracotta and red, keeping the palette warm but light.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Terracotta, cream and soft yellow suit a modern living room, a bedroom with linen bedding or an office with warm wood. It is a fitting gift for a hiker who has The Wave on their bucket list, or who already made the trek.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of The Wave, Arizona? No. It is an artistic interpretation of The Wave. Some of the nearby domes and buttes are simplified into general striped forms in the watercolor style.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "THE WAVE," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
