This South Bend watercolor print shows the Golden Dome of the University of Notre Dame's Main Building reflected in St. Mary's Lake, with the Basilica of the Sacred Heart beside it. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the Indiana campus scene, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The dome is washed in warm gold with bare-paper highlights, and fine brown ink outlines the spire, windows, roofs and lampposts. The Main Building and Golden Dome, topped by a statue of Mary, sit on the middle left, the tall spire of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart rises on the right, and other campus buildings sit among autumn trees. The calm lake fills the foreground with long gold and orange reflections, dry reeds and a lakeside path. Russet and bronze leaves and blue water lead the palette, with gold leaf and cream-yellow brick as accents. Drips and splatter dissolve the edges. "SOUTH BEND" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Mirror-still lake. The dome and trees stretch into long gold reflections across St. Mary's Lake.
- Dome and spire pair. The Golden Dome and the Basilica's pointed spire stand side by side above the trees.
- Geese on the water. Geese and ducks leave rings on the lake as students jog the path.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Russet, bronze and gold glow in a den, a study with dark wood or a living room in navy and cream. It is a meaningful gift for a Notre Dame graduate, a family with a student there, or a couple married at the Basilica.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of South Bend? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Golden Dome and St. Mary's Lake, painted for mood rather than as an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "SOUTH BEND," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
