This Salem, Massachusetts watercolor print shows the House of the Seven Gables framed by red maples, with the tall ship Friendship of Salem moored at Derby Wharf on Salem Harbor. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Salem, Massachusetts, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink outlines the clapboard gables, brick chimneys and ship rigging, and the house is washed in deep charcoal gray. Red-orange maple leaves and charcoal lead the palette, with harbor blue, a brick-red Federal house, white fence pickets and white sails. The dark, many-gabled house stands left of center, and the three-masted ship sits at the wharf on the right beside a small brick lighthouse. The foreground is a colonial garden with a white picket fence, a brick path and an iron gate. Mid-autumn color runs into the left edge, which dissolves into red and orange with drips and red, purple and blue splatter. "SALEM" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Peak fall foliage. Maples blaze red and orange around the dark gabled house.
- Colonial garden path. Visitors walk a brick path past a white picket fence and a black iron gate.
- Tall ship moored. A three-masted ship rests at Derby Wharf while sailboats drift in the harbor.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
The warm reds and charcoal suit an autumn-themed living room, a dark-walled library or an entryway with brass and wood. It makes a fine housewarming gift for a New England fan or a reader of classic American novels.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Salem, Massachusetts? No. This is an artistic interpretation of Salem, and some details, such as the lighthouse at the wharf, are simplified or rearranged.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "SALEM," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
