This Palo Alto watercolor print shows Stanford Memorial Church and its gold mosaic facade behind the arcades of the Main Quad, seen from the Oval at the head of Palm Drive. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the California campus scene, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The mosaic facade is built from small wet patches of gold and red, and fine brown ink outlines the arches, red tile roofs, Hoover Tower and palm crowns. Memorial Church sits at the center behind the sandstone arcades of the Main Quad, and Hoover Tower with its red domed top rises on the left. The Santa Cruz Mountains roll behind in blue-violet. Palm Drive runs up from the foreground between rows of tall palms to the Oval, where a round flower bed sits on the early-spring lawn. Palm and lawn green lead the palette, with sandstone gold, terracotta roofs and the bright gold of the facade. "PALO ALTO" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Gold mosaic facade. The church front glows in gold and red right at the center of the print.
- Palm-lined approach. Two rows of tall palms guide the eye up Palm Drive to the Quad.
- Students on bikes. Cyclists ride Palm Drive while students relax near the round red flower bed on the Oval.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Sandstone gold, green and terracotta suit a Spanish-style living room, a home office or a sunny hallway. Give it to a Stanford graduate, a Palo Alto newcomer or a family celebrating an acceptance letter.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Palo Alto? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Stanford campus from Palm Drive, painted loosely rather than as an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "PALO ALTO," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
