This Oakland watercolor print shows Lake Merritt and its Necklace of Lights, with the downtown skyline and the red-brick Tribune Tower across the water. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the lake, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The lake is a turquoise wash with long vertical reflections of the towers and streaks of white paper for light. Fine brown ink outlines the towers, the white pergola columns, lampposts and a gondola, and the strung globe lights are small white dots along the shore. The view looks west from Lakeshore Avenue: the Tribune Tower with its copper roof stands in the center, the white neoclassical Alameda County Courthouse sits to the right, and the Lakeside Park pergola rests on the left bank. The Oakland hills fade softly behind the city in late spring. The left edge and bottom melt into violet and blue blooms, drips and splatter. "OAKLAND" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Gondola on the lake. A black gondola with a standing gondolier carries passengers across the calm water.
- Pelicans and egrets. Two white pelicans swim near shore while an egret flies overhead.
- Turquoise and brick. Turquoise water and leafy green are set off by the tower's red brick and copper roof.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its turquoise and green tones suit a calm bedroom, a living room with blue accents or a light-filled office. A good gift for an East Bay local, or for someone who used to walk the loop around the lake.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Oakland? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Lake Merritt and downtown, with the skyline simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "OAKLAND," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
