This Malacca watercolor print shows red Christ Church Melaka with its white cross on Dutch Square, the Malacca River and a white-railed stone bridge in front. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Malacca, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
The terracotta walls are built up in even layers, with fine ink outlining the white window frames and arched doorways. The river is a turquoise wash with horizontal reflections, and the lower left edge spills into pink and violet bougainvillea with several drips. Colonial brick red dominates, set against leafy greens and turquoise water, with pink bougainvillea and white frangipani as accents. The church sits right of center with a small bell tower, a red row with a clock tower stands to the left, and a white fountain marks the middle of the square. A sunny dry-season light falls over the whole scene. "MALACCA" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Brick-red square. Layered terracotta washes give Dutch Square its warm, solid color.
- Flower trishaws. A trishaw decked in bright flowers waits on the square.
- River boats. A blue-roofed tour boat glides under the bridge past a café umbrella on the bank.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The rich red and turquoise palette brings warmth to a living room, den or kitchen wall. It is a thoughtful gift for a Malacca honeymoon memory or a friend who grew up in Malaysia.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Malacca? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Dutch Square and the river, and some details, such as the church gable and the buildings around the square, are simplified or rearranged.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "MALACCA," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
