This Madison watercolor print shows the white dome of the Wisconsin State Capitol rising behind Monona Terrace, with a frozen, snow-covered Lake Monona in front. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Madison, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines define the Capitol dome and the arched glass arcade of Monona Terrace. Much of the frozen lake is left as bare white paper, with pale blue strokes marking curving skating lanes. Snow white and icy blue lead the palette, with stone gray, brown bare branches, a gilded statue on the dome and small touches of red. The Capitol stands at top center, flanked by brick and glass buildings and a pointed bell tower, while a snowy bank with bare trees and shoreline rocks anchors the lower left. The scene is set in late winter, and the left edge fades into violet-blue and brown drips with blue splatter. "MADISON" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Winter on the ice. Skaters follow a swept, curving lane across the frozen lake.
- Ice fishing shanties. Small gray and red shanties dot the ice, with a cross-country skier and a runner with a dog nearby.
- Quiet cool palette. Generous white space and soft blues give the print a calm, wintry feel.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The white, icy blue and gray palette suits a calm bedroom, a Scandinavian-style living room or a cozy reading corner, and it reads especially well on white or pale gray walls. It is a fitting gift for someone who loves Wisconsin winters or once called Madison home.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Madison? No. It is an artistic, watercolor-style take on Madison in winter, not a precise rendering of the lakefront.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "MADISON," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
