This Kanazawa watercolor print shows the two-tiered Ishikawa-mon Gate of Kanazawa Castle on its massive stone wall, framed by cherry blossoms in full bloom. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Kanazawa, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines trace the lead-gray roof tiles, the white walls with diamond namako patterns and the large stone base, while the blossoms are dabbed in dense pink washes. Spring cherry pink, plaster white, pearl gray and pine green make up the palette, with small touches of blue. The gate sits in the center with a stone arch bridge and passersby leading up to it, the white castle wall runs off to the right toward a small watchtower, and a path under the cherry trees cuts diagonally across the lower left. Blue-violet wooded hills sit behind under a pale sky. Pink and gray-green drips run down the left edge, with pink splatter around the border. "KANAZAWA" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Kimono strollers. Two women in kimono walk beneath the blossoms.
- Stone lantern and pine. A Japanese stone lantern and a shaped pine sit along the path.
- Namako wall pattern. The white walls show a crisp diamond tile pattern in ink.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Soft pink, white and pine green make it a calm choice for a bedroom, a meditation corner or a Japandi living room. It is a lovely gift to remember a cherry blossom trip to Japan or for someone who once lived in Kanazawa.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Kanazawa? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Kanazawa, and the area around the bridge and gate is simplified and rearranged for the painting.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "KANAZAWA," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
