A red maple tree print for a living room that needs one strong shape on the wall. A single large maple glows red over a yellow field, backed by black-gray rocky mountains, a silver lake and a small red sun. A strip of red, black and yellow bars runs down the left side like a spine. It feels like autumn reduced to a few flat colors.
About the artwork
Red, yellow, black-gray and silver, laid down flat in a woodblock-style manner. The maple is the largest form on the sheet, its red canopy set against the dark rocks behind it. The yellow field and the silver lake are calm, open areas, and the small red sun repeats the color of the tree. Down the left edge, vertical red, black and yellow bars act like a title strip. The lettering reads カエデの木, KAEDE NO KI, NIHON NO FŪKEI and TOKYO 1988. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- One tree, one strong shape. The red maple dominates the sheet, so the print reads clearly even from the far side of the room.
- Graphic side bars. The red, black and yellow bars down the left edge give it a bold, poster-like structure.
- Warm colors with a dark anchor. The gray-black mountains keep the red and yellow from looking sweet.
- Lettering in two scripts. Japanese characters sit alongside romanized lines, adding typography without clutter.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it above a sofa or a fireplace in a living room with cream, warm gray or charcoal walls, at 24" x 36" or 30" x 40". Rust, mustard and black accents in cushions or a rug pick up the side bars, and dark wood side tables suit its contrast. A black floating frame gives the red a sharp edge. Pair it with a small print of gray rocky mountains to echo the backdrop.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What does kaede mean? Kaede is the Japanese word for maple, and the tree drawn here is a red maple. The heading カエデの木 is also spelled out in Latin letters as KAEDE NO KI.
Which frame color suits the red maple? Black sharpens the red and ties in the side bars. Espresso wood is a warmer option for rooms with dark furniture.
Will it look out of place outside autumn? The red tree suggests fall, but the flat, graphic colors keep it from feeling seasonal. It works year-round in a room with warm accents.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
