This Hakone watercolor print shows the vermilion Heiwa-no-Torii of Hakone Shrine standing in Lake Ashi, with snow-capped Mount Fuji rising behind. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Hakone, not an exact view of the town.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines trace the torii, the ship's masts and the wooden railings, and the lake is washed in blue with the gate's red reflection. Lake blue, deep cedar green and vermilion form the palette, with early summer hydrangeas in blue and violet in the foreground. The torii stands in the water left of center, Mount Fuji rises on the right, a multi-masted sightseeing ship styled like an old sailing ship cruises on the right, and a stone lakeside path with a wooden railing and a wooden building fills the lower left. Blue-violet forested ridges ring the lake under a pale sky. Blue-violet drips fall from the left edge, with yellow-green splatter around the border. "HAKONE" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Sailing-ship ferry. A tour boat styled like an old sailing ship crosses the lake.
- Rowboat for two. A small rowboat with two people floats near the shore.
- Hydrangea border. Blue and violet hydrangeas edge the lakeside path.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
Lake blue, cedar green and a hit of vermilion work in a living room, a home office or a Japandi bedroom. It is a meaningful gift for someone who has stayed in Hakone, or a souvenir of a first trip to Japan.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Hakone? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Hakone in a watercolor style, placing the torii, lake and Mount Fuji together in one view.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "HAKONE," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
