This Gates of the Arctic National Park watercolor print shows the jagged granite spires of the Arrigetch Peaks above a wide, braided river valley in Alaska. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the range, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines draw the sharp granite towers and their vertical cracks, with cool violet-blue shadows on the rock and snow left as white paper in the gullies. The braided river is a pale blue wash winding over cream gravel bars. Granite grey, violet-blue shadow, tundra green and pale river blue lead, with white cotton grass as the accent. The spires fill the upper half with the tallest at center, seen from a tundra bench above the Arrigetch Creek valley, with Brooks Range ridges fading behind. Cotton grass and lichen-covered boulders fill the midsummer foreground, and green-gold drips run from the lower left. "GATES OF THE ARCTIC" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Granite spire skyline. The sawtooth row of peaks creates a bold silhouette across the top half.
- Caribou crossing. Five caribou wading the river, two backpackers with poles and a ground squirrel bring the wilderness to life.
- Cool arctic palette. Grey, violet and pale blue keep the print calm and fresh.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool grey, sage and pale blue suit a Scandinavian-style living room, a minimalist bedroom, or a quiet office. A good gift for a serious backpacker, a fly-in adventurer, or a collector aiming to see all the national parks.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Gates of the Arctic National Park? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Arrigetch Peaks; some details are simplified or rearranged, and more spruce trees appear along the valley than you would find there.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "GATES OF THE ARCTIC," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
