This Elfreth's Alley Philadelphia watercolor print shows the narrow cobbled lane of Elfreth's Alley in Philadelphia, lined with small 18th-century red-brick houses. It is an artistic interpretation in a watercolor style, not a precise view of the street.
About the artwork
Careful brown ink renders the Flemish-bond brickwork, shutters and lanterns, while the cobblestones are washed in grey, blue and violet with bright paper left between. The lane curves gently into the center of the picture, viewed straight down its length. Two- and three-story houses with white trim, shutters and dormers line both sides beneath chimneys and pitched roofs. Window boxes, wooden planters and a white flowering tree set the scene in spring. A few towers appear faintly in the distance, and the left edge dissolves into pink-orange drips. "PHILADELPHIA" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Cat on the step. A cat sits on a doorstep while a resident sweeps the stoop nearby.
- Wisteria and window boxes. Purple wisteria and pink flower pots soften the red brick.
- Colonial brick detail. Hitching posts, lanterns and patterned brick reward a close look.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The brick reds and leafy greens suit a cozy kitchen, a reading nook or a hallway with warm wood floors. It's a charming housewarming gift for someone buying an old rowhouse, or for a history lover who has walked the alley. Pair it with our Philadelphia watercolor print for a two-piece set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Elfreth's Alley Philadelphia? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Elfreth's Alley, and some background details are added or rearranged for the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "PHILADELPHIA," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
