This Blacksburg watercolor print shows Burruss Hall of Virginia Tech across the broad lawn of the Drillfield, with the Appalachian Mountains behind. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the Virginia college town, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The Hokie Stone walls are built from small clear dabs of gray, tan and pink, and fine brown ink outlines the crenellated tower, pointed windows and slate roofs. Burruss Hall sits on the middle left with its central tower, other stone halls stand on the right, and blue-violet Appalachian ridges fill the background. The wide Drillfield lawn fills the foreground with crisscrossing paths, stone-post lampposts and a low stone wall. Grass and tree green lead the palette with gray-beige stone, plum-red shrubs in front and violet mountains. Drips and splatter dissolve the left and bottom edges. "BLACKSBURG" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Mottled stone texture. Tiny dabs of color mimic the speckled gray, tan and pink of Hokie Stone.
- Mountain backdrop. Blue Appalachian ridges rise just behind the campus roofline.
- Drillfield gathering. A frisbee game, picnic blankets and students cutting across the lawn fill the center.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Stone gray, green and plum suit a home office, a basement family room or a hallway with charcoal accents. It works as a graduation gift or for a family proud of their Virginia Tech student.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Blacksburg? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Burruss Hall and the Drillfield, painted loosely rather than as an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "BLACKSBURG," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
