This Billings watercolor print shows the sandstone Rimrocks stretching above downtown Billings, with the Yellowstone River winding through the foreground. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Billings, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Honey-colored sandstone is built from layered washes with vertical ink strokes for the cracks, and the river is laid in blue with reflections and bare paper for the gravel bars. Golden cottonwood yellow, sandstone beige and river blue lead the palette, accented by rust-red freight cars, a dark blue-black glass tower and gray-green brush. The Rimrocks run across the top from the left, downtown sits in the middle with a dark glass tower standing out and grain silos to the left, and a freight train runs along the tracks below. The braided river curves through the middle ground, and a riverside trail with a wooden fence fills the foreground. Turning cottonwoods mark early fall, while yellow and blue drips run from the lower edges with splatter around a white paper border. "BILLINGS" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Golden cottonwoods. Wet yellow washes capture cottonwoods turning along the river.
- Freight train and silos. A long train passes grain silos and a steel bridge over the water.
- River trail riders. Two cyclists ride the fenced trail while a drift boat floats past with an angler.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Golden yellows and river blue suit a living room, a ranch-style den or an office with leather and wood. It is a thoughtful gift for a Montana native, a fly-fishing fan or a friend moving out west.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Billings? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Billings, with the bluffs, downtown and river arranged into one wide western scene.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "BILLINGS," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
