This Baton Rouge watercolor print shows the Louisiana State Capitol tower and the Old Louisiana State Capitol across a wide stretch of the Mississippi River. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Baton Rouge, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Big cumulus clouds are built from layered blue and violet washes, river reflections are laid in horizontal cream and brown strokes, and fine ink defines the tower and the ships. Limestone cream, sky-and-river blue and green lead the palette, accented by a red paddle wheel, rust-brown barges and a gray warship. The Art Deco Capitol rises right of center, the white Gothic-style Old State Capitol sits left in the middle ground, and the USS Kidd is moored on the right bank, with a grassy levee and bike path in front. Tall clouds and full green trees suggest early summer. Long drips run from the lower left and right edges, with splatter around a white paper border. "BATON ROUGE" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Working river scene. A towboat pushes a long line of barges past a white paddle wheeler with a red wheel.
- Two capitols. The Art Deco tower and the castle-like Old State Capitol share one skyline.
- Levee bike path. A cyclist rides the levee path past old-style lamp posts.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The open blues and creams suit a living room, a study or an office with navy, white or natural wood accents. It makes a meaningful gift for someone who studied or worked in Baton Rouge, or for a fan of river towns.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Baton Rouge? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Baton Rouge. The viewpoint and some placements are rearranged so the river, the towers and the ships fit in one frame.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "BATON ROUGE," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
