This Waianapanapa State Park watercolor print shows Pailoa Bay, a crescent of jet-black sand set among jagged lava cliffs and cobalt water on Maui. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the Hawaii coast, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The bay is layered in transparent cobalt and turquoise, with white paper left for the surf. Fine brown-grey ink outlines the rough black lava and the naupaka leaves. The palette is cobalt and turquoise sea, black lava and volcanic sand, and fresh green naupaka and hala. The black sand beach curves through the middle ground, with a lava sea arch on the headland to the right, seen from the lava-rock trail above. Sharp lava and bright naupaka fill the foreground, hala and palms edge the sand on the left, and the green slopes of East Maui stretch toward Hana. "WAIANAPANAPA" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Black and blue contrast. Dark lava and black sand make the bright water pop.
- Natural lava arch. A sea arch stands on the rocky point as surf crashes nearby.
- Coast toward Hana. The shoreline runs off toward Hana in the distance.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
High-contrast blue and black tones suit a modern living room, a bedroom with white walls or a beach-house bath. Give it to a couple who drove the Road to Hana on their honeymoon.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Waianapanapa State Park? No. It is an artistic watercolor interpretation of Pailoa Bay at Waianapanapa, not an exact view of the coastline.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "WAIANAPANAPA," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
