This Todai-ji Temple travel poster looks across an open lawn to the great timber hall, its double roof spreading wide between dark pines. Sika deer graze in the foreground, stone lanterns stand along the path, and a sunlit wooded hill rises behind.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with dense line work in the roof tiles, bracket sets and grass. The hall is built up in weathered brown and ochre timber under two blue-grey tiled roofs, with gold ornaments on the ridge ends and a gold crest on the front gable. Three or four deer are drawn in mid-brown with white spots, the nearest large in the bottom corner with its head down. The lawn is laid in bands of deep green and sunlit lime, broken by grey stone lanterns. NARA is printed in white capitals with JAPAN beneath.
Why you'll love it
- Animals in the foreground give the picture a story, which few landmark prints have.
- Deep greens and warm timber make it a restful piece rather than a bright one.
- Archival paper or gallery-wrapped canvas, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- Thirteen sizes and four frame finishes, from a shelf print to a feature wall.
Where it works at home
The deer make this an easy choice for a child's room or a family hallway, where people notice them one at a time. The green range also suits a study or a room full of houseplants, and the vertical shape fits the narrow wall between two windows.
Sizes and materials
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Thirteen sizes are available, from 8 x 12 inches up to a 30 x 40 inch statement piece, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. Every piece is made to order.
Shipping and care
Each piece is printed and finished after the order is placed, then shipped in protective packaging — paper prints rolled in a rigid tube, canvas and framed canvas boxed with corner guards. Keep the artwork out of direct sunlight and wipe framed canvas with a dry, soft cloth. Paper prints are best handled by the edges until they are framed.
Questions
Which material should I choose? Paper is the most affordable option and lets you pick your own frame. Matte canvas adds depth and needs no glass. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang and is the usual choice for a feature wall.
Will the colours match what I see on screen? Printing is colour-managed, so the artwork stays very close to the preview. Paper reads slightly softer than canvas, which holds a touch more contrast.
Are the deer really part of the scene? Yes. The temple grounds and the surrounding park in Nara are home to free-roaming sika deer, and the artist has drawn several grazing on the lawn in front of the hall, with one close to the viewer at the bottom of the sheet.
