This Chicago Loop watercolor print shows a silver L train running on the elevated steel tracks above Wabash Avenue, with Chicago School office buildings and the skyline beyond. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the Loop, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines draw the rivets and lattice columns of the elevated track and each window of the stainless-steel cars, while autumn leaves are layered orange and red dots. Orange, red and blue washes with long drips run down the left edge and bottom. The palette is the rust brown of the elevated tracks, cream terracotta and red brick, and gray-blue towers, with orange-red leaves and the silver train as accents. The train crosses the scene on a gently curving track, seen from a rooftop above Wabash Avenue looking north; a cream Chicago School building with three-part windows and a carved cornice stands on the right, red brick on the left, and the street below shows track shadows, a crosswalk and trees. Taller towers, including Willis Tower, rise in the background on a crisp late-fall day. "CHICAGO" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Riveted steel tracks. The elevated structure is drawn rivet by rivet, with pigeons perched on the girders.
- Chicago windows. The cream office building shows the wide three-part windows of the Chicago School style.
- Street-level life. A cyclist, pedestrians, old lampposts and rooftop water tanks fill in the city below.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The rust, cream and orange tones work well in a loft, office or den with leather, brick or dark metal. It is a smart gift for a daily L rider, a train enthusiast or anyone who works in the Loop. Pair it with our Chicago watercolor print for a two-piece set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Chicago Loop? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Loop, and some skyline buildings are placed for the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "CHICAGO," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
