This St. Paul watercolor print shows the Cathedral of Saint Paul on its hill above the downtown Saint Paul skyline and the ice-flecked Mississippi River, seen from a snowy Harriet Island. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of St. Paul, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Snow is left as white paper with blue-violet shadows, the river is laid in horizontal strokes of icy blue with white floes, and bare trees are drawn in fine ink. Snow white, ice blue and granite gray lead the palette, with a copper-green dome, a red paddle wheel, orange-red brick and dry brown branches. The cathedral's green dome and twin bell towers sit on the hill at left, reaching the top third, while downtown fills the center right behind a low concrete bridge and an arched bridge. The river with drifting ice runs through the middle, and the Harriet Island bank in front holds a small skating rink and a moored paddle boat. Snow and ice set it in midwinter, and brown, orange and blue washes drip from both lower corners with splatter around a white paper border. "ST. PAUL" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Ice skaters. People skate on a small rink along the riverbank.
- Winter sled ride. A figure pulls a bright red sled through the snow.
- Moored paddle boat. A white riverboat with a red wheel waits beside a gazebo and old lamp posts.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool whites, icy blues and copper green suit a living room, bedroom or entryway with gray, white or navy decor. It is a warm gift for a Twin Cities transplant or anyone who loves a Minnesota winter.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of St. Paul? No. It is an artistic interpretation of St. Paul. The cathedral is placed closer to downtown than it really is, and a few architectural details are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "ST. PAUL," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
