This Sintra watercolor print shows the yellow and red Pena Palace on a forested hilltop, with the Moorish Castle walls winding along the ridge below. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Sintra, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Layer upon layer of green builds the Pena Park forest, with mist left as open white paper drifting between the trees. Thin brown ink outlines the gray stone ramparts and the palace, while the left edge melts into golden-orange speckles with long drips and the base bleeds green and orange. Pine and fern greens lead the palette against granite gray, with saffron yellow and vermilion red on the palace and dark gray domes. Pena Palace sits right of center near the top, the castle walls curve down from the left into the middle ground, and mossy boulders and tree ferns fill the foreground. Faint hills, a small town and the Atlantic appear in the hazy distance on a misty spring day. "SINTRA" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Walkers on the ramparts. Tiny figures climb the steps along the old castle walls.
- Fog in the forest. White mist threads through the trees and softens the hillside.
- Tree ferns up front. Large tree ferns and a flock of birds near the palace add depth and movement.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The deep greens with yellow and red accents work in a living room with olive, sage or terracotta tones, or in a home office that needs a little color. Give it to a friend who fell for Sintra on a trip to Portugal.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Sintra? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Sintra that brings the palace, the castle walls and the forest together in one watercolor-style scene.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "SINTRA," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
