This San Jose, California watercolor print shows the cream Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph across Plaza de César Chávez in warm summer light. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of downtown, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Clear washes build the cathedral's cream facade, and fine brown ink traces its columns, bell towers, domes, a light rail train and streetlamps. The fountain jets are reserved white paper, and jacaranda blossoms are wet purple dots. The cathedral sits in the middle ground on the right with its portico, two small domed towers and large central dome, while downtown towers and hotels rise on the left. The brown hills of the Diablo Range sit in the distance, and tall palms line the plaza. The left edge and bottom soften into purple, orange and blue blooms, drips and splatter. "SAN JOSE" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Fountain play. Children run between the plaza's fountain jets on a warm day.
- Passing light rail. A white and blue light rail train crosses the scene beside the plaza.
- Jacaranda accents. Purple jacaranda blooms and green-gray domes add color to the palm green and cream.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
The palm greens, cream and purple accents brighten a living room, dining area or entryway with light, airy decor. It is a nice gift for someone who grew up in the South Bay or just moved there for work.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of San Jose, California? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Plaza de César Chávez and the cathedral, painted loosely in watercolor.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "SAN JOSE," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
