This San Diego Bay watercolor print shows the tall ship Star of India moored on the bay in San Diego, with the downtown skyline and Coronado Bridge beyond. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the harbor, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Dense ink linework draws the three wooden masts, the web of rigging, furled square sails and the white band of gunports on the black hull. The bay is layered in horizontal blue strokes that reflect the hull, and palm fronds fan out in quick strokes. The Star of India sits center left, seen from just off the North Embarcadero looking east, beside the white Berkeley steam ferry with a yellow stack and another historic ship. Downtown towers fill the background, and the Coronado Bridge sweeps across the bay on the right. A palm-lined promenade and wooden pilings with pelicans fill the left foreground, with blue, yellow and green washes dripping from the edges. "SAN DIEGO" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Tall ship rigging. Masts, lines and furled sails are drawn in fine, dense detail.
- Pelicans on pilings. Three pelicans perch on wooden posts near the promenade.
- Harbor blues. Bay blue and palm green are sharpened by the ship's black-and-white hull and red roofs.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.

- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The harbor blues suit a coastal living room, a nautical kid's room or a home office. It is a great gift for a sailor, a Navy family or anyone who loves the San Diego waterfront. Pair it with our San Diego watercolor print for a two-piece set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of San Diego Bay? No. It is an artistic interpretation of San Diego Bay and the Maritime Museum ships, with the viewpoint and skyline simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "SAN DIEGO," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
