This Rockport, Massachusetts watercolor print shows the barn-red fishing shack Motif No. 1, hung with bright buoys, across the inner harbor from Bearskin Neck. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the harbor, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The blue harbor carries long red reflections from the shack, laid down in loose vertical washes. Fine ink lines draw the boards, hanging buoys, lobster traps and pilings, and the granite rocks in front are washed in beige and violet. The palette pairs Motif No. 1 red and harbor blue with the grey shingles of Bearskin Neck, plus white boats and orange-yellow buoys. Motif No. 1 stands on its granite wharf in the middle ground, the grey shops of Bearskin Neck crowd the left, and sailboats dot Sandy Bay on the far right. The view is from a flowering rocky shore on a summer day. "ROCKPORT" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Painter at the easel. An artist in a straw hat sits on the rocks painting the famous shack.
- Barn red and harbor blue. The red shack and its reflection pop against the cool water.
- Working harbor detail. Lobster traps, moored skiffs and gulls on pilings fill the scene.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
Strong red and blue make it a natural fit for a nautical living room, a navy-and-white bedroom or a study. It is a good gift for an artist, a Cape Ann regular or anyone who spent summers on the North Shore.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Rockport, Massachusetts? No. It is an artistic, stylized watercolor interpretation of Rockport Harbor, and the viewpoint and some small details are simplified for the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "ROCKPORT," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
