This Marseille watercolor print looks across the Vieux-Port, crowded with sailboats, to Notre-Dame de la Garde on its rocky hill. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Marseille, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Deep blue harbor water is painted in horizontal strokes with sparkling white paper, a forest of masts is drawn in thin vertical ink lines, and the hilltop basilica is a pale yellow wash topped by a gold statue. Mediterranean blue leads the palette, with white limestone, beige townhouses, terracotta roofs, a gold accent on the statue and blue-and-yellow stripes on the boats. The basilica sits in the upper right, tall townhouses cover the hill in the middle, a round-towered fort stands on the left and the Abbey of Saint-Victor on the right. The old port full of boats fills the center, and fish stalls under white umbrellas and wooden pointu boats crowd the left foreground. A long blue drip runs down the lower left edge in the bright light of midsummer. "MARSEILLE" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Morning fish market. Fishermen in aprons sell the catch at stalls on the quay.
- Painted pointu boats. Wooden boats in blue, white and yellow bob at the dock.
- Golden statue accent. A gold statue tops the basilica's bell tower high above the port.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its sea blues and sandy beige suit a coastal kitchen, a bathroom or a breezy living room. It is a fun gift for a sailor or anyone with fond memories of the south of France.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Marseille? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Marseille, painted from the fish market quay. Some details, like the fort on the left and the basilica's stonework, are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "MARSEILLE," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
