This Iowa City watercolor print shows the Old Capitol with its gold dome on the Pentacrest, above the Iowa River and a rowing crew. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Iowa City, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
The river is layered in blues with vertical cream and yellow reflections, tree canopies blend wet green and yellow, and fine ink outlines the Doric columns and the bridge railing. Green and river blue lead the palette, with the gold Old Capitol dome, honey-cream limestone and pale orange at the edges. The Old Capitol sits on the hill slightly left of center with its dome in the top third, flanked by the limestone buildings of the Pentacrest. An arched bridge crosses the river in the middle ground, the river fills the lower right with an eight-person rowing shell, and a tree-lined riverside path runs along the left. Green lawns with the first yellow leaves suggest late summer, and orange, violet and blue washes drip from the edges with splatter around a white paper border. "IOWA CITY" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Rowing crew. An eight-person shell glides across the river.
- Campus pathways. Students with backpacks walk and bike along the riverside path.
- Flag on the dome. An American flag tops the gold dome above the columns.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green, blue and soft gold work in a dorm, a home office or a living room with classic or collegiate decor. It is a good gift for a new graduate, a visiting professor or a parent who just dropped a student off in Iowa City.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Iowa City? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Iowa City. The bridge in particular is drawn as a decorative stone arch, so some details differ from the real place.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "IOWA CITY," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
