This Hocking Hills watercolor print shows Old Man's Cave carved into a tall sandstone cliff in Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio, near the Upper Falls. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of this Ohio gorge, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Fine brown ink draws the sandstone layers, the honeycomb weathering and the carved steps. The small waterfall and riffles are left as white paper, the pool is a clear blue-green wash, and moss and ferns glow green and gold with fallen leaves dotted in orange. The cave opens into the cliff left of center, seen from the gorge trail near the Upper Falls, with the falls dropping into a round pool in the middle and a stone arch bridge and stairs on the right. Green wooded ridges fill the background, and a clear stream over smooth, mossy sandstone runs through the foreground. Fresh spring ferns set the season, and the left edge melts into green, gold and orange drips. "HOCKING HILLS" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Honeycomb sandstone. Pitted, honeycomb weathering on the ochre cliff is drawn in fine detail.
- Family at the pool. A child stands by the pool with an adult while hikers cross the stone bridge and stairs.
- Ochre and hemlock. Ochre stone and hemlock green are set off by a blue pool, orange leaves and pale pink rhododendron.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Ochre, moss and soft blue suit a rustic living room, a cabin bedroom or a family hallway. Give it to an Ohio family that hikes the gorges together each spring.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Hocking Hills? No. This is an artistic interpretation of Hocking Hills, arranged to fit the cave, falls and bridge into one view.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "HOCKING HILLS," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
