A Forbidden City travel poster taken from the corner of a vast paved courtyard in Beijing, China, with a great hall rising on the right under layered golden roofs. Deep vermilion walls sit above a white marble terrace, and long blue shadows stretch across the flagstones.
About the artwork
Flat vector planes with engraved line detail. Sweeping roofs in ochre and warm gold carry ridge figures at their upturned eaves, above a band of blue-green beam work in tight hatching. The palace wall is one block of red with a single shadowed doorway. A carved marble balustrade crosses the picture and steps down in a broad staircase, and the courtyard fans out as a grid of pale flagstones in late-afternoon light. Captioned BEIJING above CHINA in white capitals.
Why you'll love it
- A strong red-and-gold focal point that stays calm, half the picture being open paving.
- The deep perspective makes the print feel larger than its frame.
- Museum-grade paper or matte canvas; inks keep the vermilion rich, not orange.
- An architectural piece for anyone who likes structure and light.
Where it works at home
This one earns a formal spot: above a hall console, in a dining room where the red picks up warm wood, or in a book-lined study. Against cream or clay walls the vermilion reads as a deliberate accent.
Sizes and materials
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Thirteen sizes are available, from 8 x 12 inches up to a 30 x 40 inch statement piece, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. Every piece is made to order.
Shipping and care
Each piece is printed and finished after the order is placed, then shipped in protective packaging — paper prints rolled in a rigid tube, canvas and framed canvas boxed with corner guards. Keep the artwork out of direct sunlight and wipe framed canvas with a dry, soft cloth. Paper prints are best handled by the edges until they are framed.
Questions
Which material should I choose? Paper is the most affordable option and lets you pick your own frame. Matte canvas adds depth and needs no glass. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang and is the usual choice for a feature wall.
Will the colours match what I see on screen? Printing is colour-managed, so the artwork stays very close to the preview. Paper reads slightly softer than canvas, which holds a touch more contrast.
How is this different from the other two Beijing prints in the range? The three Beijing designs show separate places. This one is the imperial palace at the centre of the city: red walls, golden roofs, a stone courtyard. The Temple of Heaven print shows a round, blue-tiled ceremonial hall reached by marble stairways in a park to the south. The Mutianyu print leaves the city for the stone wall on forested ridges to the north.
