This Flinders Street Melbourne poster looks straight across a wide striped crossing at the station's ochre sandstone facade, its green copper dome and arched clock catching low afternoon light. A line of green and gold trams waits at the kerb, a slim glass tower rises behind the rooftops, and the whole corner sits under a flat teal sky.
About the artwork
A flat vector travel-poster illustration built from broad blocks of colour and fine ruled line work. The palette runs from a single teal sky through mustard and ochre stonework, deep verdigris domes, brick red on the side wing, and cool blue-grey glass on the towers behind. The composition is anchored low: bold cream and grey pedestrian stripes sweep out of the foreground toward the station, so the eye travels along them to the clock face at the centre. Typography is set in white capitals across the sky, reading MELBOURNE above a smaller AUSTRALIA. A clean white margin surrounds the scene. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A landmark people recognise instantly. The domed roofline, the arched entrance and the round clock read as Melbourne from across the room.
- Warm ochre against cool teal. The two-tone contrast gives the print real presence on a plain wall without shouting.
- The trams tell the story. Green and gold carriages lined up at the kerb add movement and a sense of the city at street level.
- Graphic depth from the crossing. Foreground stripes give the artwork perspective, so it holds up at large sizes as well as small.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The mustard stonework warms up cool walls, so this one is happy on soft teal, slate grey or a chalky off-white. A black frame keeps the city-architecture edge and picks up the tram wires and lamp posts; a light oak frame softens it for a hallway or a breakfast nook. It suits rooms with a little industrial character — exposed brick, a walnut console, black steel shelving, or a home office desk. Green foliage nearby echoes the verdigris domes.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? For a spot above a sofa or bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall properly. In a hallway, entry or gallery grouping, 12" x 18" and 18" x 24" sit comfortably.
Does it come framed? Paper prints arrive rolled and unframed. Canvas can be ordered stretched, or as framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural.
What words are printed on the poster? Only two lines in white capitals across the sky: MELBOURNE, with AUSTRALIA set smaller beneath it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
