This Empire State Building watercolor print shows the Art Deco tower rising over the Manhattan grid in New York City, seen from a Midtown rooftop with old wooden water towers. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the skyline, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Dense, fine ink linework picks out windows, rooftop water towers and parapets, while transparent layers of beige, brick brown and gray-blue build up the city. The palette stays in limestone beige, brick and soft blue, with yellow taxis and green street trees as small accents. The tower stands at the center, viewed from a high rooftop to the north looking south down the grid; round water towers on steel legs and a ledge with pigeons fill the left foreground, a tree-lined avenue runs down the middle, and Lower Manhattan with One World Trade Center and the pale harbor sits far behind. Green and gold washes drip down from the lower left corner, and splattered edges fade into a white paper border. The season is early summer, with clear bright air. "NEW YORK" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Rooftop water towers. Classic round wooden water towers stand in the foreground, a detail every New Yorker knows.
- Busy streets below. A line of tiny yellow taxis and pedestrians at a crosswalk fill the avenue far below.
- Downtown on the horizon. One World Trade Center and Lower Manhattan appear in the distance, giving a sense of the whole island.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its beige, brown and blue tones work in a home office, study or hallway with neutral walls and black or brass accents. It is a good gift for someone who just moved to Manhattan, or for a former New Yorker who misses the view. Pair it with our New York City watercolor print for a two-piece set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Empire State Building? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Midtown view, and a few distant details are simplified or arranged for the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "NEW YORK," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
