This Edinburgh watercolor print shows Edinburgh Castle on Castle Rock above the green slopes of Princes Street Gardens and the Ross Fountain. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Edinburgh, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink outlines the castle walls, the gabled barracks roofs and the ornate figures on the fountain. The volcanic rock is washed in gray-violet with mossy green, the fountain spray is left as white paper, and heather-colored blooms melt along the left and bottom edges. The palette is beige-gray castle stone and fresh garden greens, with accents of heather purple, the teal and gold of the Ross Fountain and a navy train. The castle sits right of center on top of the rock, the Tolbooth Kirk spire and Old Town buildings rise on the left, and a train runs across a stone bridge at the foot of the cliff. Sloping lawns, a curving path and benches fill the foreground in late summer, when the flower beds are in full bloom. "EDINBURGH" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Piper in a kilt. A bagpiper in a kilt plays on the lawn below the castle.
- Navy train below. A navy blue train passes along the base of Castle Rock.
- Ornate fountain detail. The teal and gold Ross Fountain is drawn with fine, decorative linework.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
Soft greens, stone beige and heather purple fit a bedroom, a library corner or a hallway with tartan or wool textures. It suits a graduate, a former Edinburgh resident or anyone with Scottish family ties.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Edinburgh? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Edinburgh, and the castle stone is painted in warmer, lighter tones than you may remember.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "EDINBURGH," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
