A do it for the plot newspaper poster: the words DO IT FOR THE PLOT in rough black marker lettering, stacked over an aged 1851 New York newspaper page in black and ivory.
About the artwork
The four words sit on four lines and run almost edge to edge, so the phrase reads in one glance. The strokes are scratchy and dry at the ends, like a marker dragged fast across paper. Behind them, the page is packed with tiny columns of type, and a dated masthead line with a one-cent price peeks out at the top. Small ink spots scattered across the sheet make the old page feel handled. The dense print turns into texture, and the big letters stay the only thing you read from a distance.
Why you'll love it
- A daily nudge with a grin. A short line that pushes you to say yes to the story-worthy option.
- Vintage texture, no color to match. Black on ivory sits easily beside wood, leather and plain walls.
- Easy to read anywhere. The giant letters hold up from the hallway or across a living room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it above a desk, a record shelf or a bedroom dresser where a bit of attitude feels right. A black frame sharpens the letters, and a natural wood frame plays up the aged paper. Pair it with the taped-letter typography prints in this range for a playful quote wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is the newspaper real? It is a printed reproduction of an 1851 New York newspaper page, used as the background texture behind the lettering.
What does the text say? DO IT FOR THE PLOT, in four large lines. The small newspaper type behind it is background texture.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
