A dining room wall art print with two centuries stacked on it: a plate cut in classical engraving, with DINNER brushed across it in modern blue.
About the artwork
The plate is built entirely from hatching — no flat colour anywhere — and each item on it takes its strokes in a different direction, which is how an engraver separated one thing from another. There is sesame rice with a leaf-shaped patty, a standing bundle of greens, fanned slices of meat on the right, two small sauce bowls and two lemon wedges. Over the top, the word DINNER is laid in thick cobalt brush strokes at four different heights, and the fourth is cut off by the rim of the plate at the bottom. Nothing is aligned; the lettering simply lands where it lands.
Why you'll love it
- Hatching, not fill. Every tone made from line, each dish stroked a different way.
- Four times over. DINNER repeated across the plate at four heights.
- Deliberately mismatched. An antique plate under hand-brushed modern type.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
This one is made for the room it names — above a dining table, over a sideboard, or in a hallway leading to one. Orange and cobalt on cream is warmer than it sounds and holds up beside dark wood. Espresso and walnut frames suit the antique half; white keeps it modern.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What does it say? “It's food time.”, then DINNER and “Bon Appetit”, with DINNER repeated three more times across the plate.
Is any of the lettering cut off? Yes — the lowest DINNER is cropped by the rim of the plate.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
