This Des Moines watercolor print shows the gold dome of the Iowa State Capitol at the top of a sloping East Village street, with the Des Moines River curving below. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Des Moines, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Thin ink lines outline brick storefronts and the iron railings of a footbridge, and the dome glows in bright ochre with bare paper left as highlights. The palette mixes turquoise water, leafy greens and brick red, with gold from the dome and rose-orange flowers in the planters. The Capitol sits at the top center, framed by rows of East Village brick buildings with colorful awnings. A pedestrian bridge crosses the middle ground, and the river bends through the foreground past stone walls and a walkway on the right. Midsummer trees are full, and the edges dissolve into pink, orange, violet and green washes with long drips at the lower right. "DES MOINES" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Kayaks on the river. Three kayaks in red, yellow and blue add bright spots of color to the turquoise water.
- Market under tents. A row of white tents hints at an outdoor market along the street.
- Striped awnings. Blue and red striped awnings, hanging flower baskets and vintage streetlights fill the street with small details.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The turquoise, green and gold tones brighten a kitchen, dining room or sunny hallway, and they pair nicely with warm wood and brass. Give it to someone who calls Des Moines home, or choose it as a cheerful housewarming gift.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Des Moines? No. It is an artistic interpretation, and some details of the Capitol and the footbridge are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "DES MOINES," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
