This Cape Hatteras watercolor print shows the black-and-white spiral-striped Cape Hatteras Lighthouse rising over sand dunes on North Carolina's Outer Banks. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the lighthouse grounds, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Dark brown-black ink outlines the spiral stripes, the gallery and the lantern room, while the dunes are left as white paper with blue-violet shadows. Sea oats are brushed in gold and green, and the ocean is a blue wash with foam left as paper. The lighthouse stands on the left on its red-brick octagonal base, rising almost the full height of the frame, with the white keeper's quarters and small brick oil house beside it. A long beach with surf runs on the right, and dunes with golden sea oats, sand fencing and a boardwalk fill the foreground under a wide sky. The midsummer scene fades into blue, pink and gold streaks with long drips on the left. "CAPE HATTERAS" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Spiral stripes. The bold black-and-white spiral is the strongest graphic element and reads clearly from across a room.
- Kite over the dunes. A bright kite flies over the sand while beachgoers carry chairs and gulls circle the tower.
- Red-brick accents. Red brick at the base and red roofs warm up the sand, sea oat and ocean-blue palette.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The black, white and sandy tones suit a beach house, a coastal bathroom or a nautical kids' room. Gift it to an Outer Banks vacationer or a lighthouse collector.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Cape Hatteras? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Cape Hatteras; the beach and surf are brought into view beside the lighthouse, so the layout is rearranged a little.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "CAPE HATTERAS," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
