This Bacalar watercolor print shows the Lagoon of Seven Colors from a wooden dock with a palapa roof, with the Fort of San Felipe on the shore. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the lagoon, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Clear layers of turquoise and cobalt build the lagoon, with white paper left for sparkle and the pale shallow sand. Fine ink traces the dock, the thatched roof and the fort walls, and the edges dissolve into blue, pink and yellow with long drips at the lower left and bottom. Turquoise and cobalt dominate, with jungle and palm greens and accents of straw-gold thatch and bougainvillea pink. The dock and its palapa fill the left foreground, the stone fort with a small watchtower sits center right at the water's edge, and low green jungle and small islands line the far shore. It is a bright, warm summer day. "BACALAR" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Hammock on the dock. A hammock hangs under the palapa roof, with stone steps and flowers beside it.
- Clear-water layers. Sandy bottom and darker patches show through the bright, transparent water.
- Paddlers and sails. A white sailboat, a paddleboarder and a red kayak dot the lagoon.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The blues and greens suit a bathroom, bedroom or sunroom with white or light wood. A sweet gift for a Bacalar honeymoon or a friend who loves quiet lake towns.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Bacalar? No. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Bacalar. The fort and the color bands of the lagoon are stylized, and a few details are simplified or rearranged.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "BACALAR," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
