This Assateague Island National Seashore watercolor print shows a band of wild horses walking along the edge of the surf on a wide summer beach. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the Maryland shore, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Sand and sea foam are left as white paper under thin beige washes, and the horses' reflections shimmer on the wet sand in soft color. Fine brown-grey ink outlines the horses, a wooden sand fence and scattered shells. The palette is pale sand beige, sea blue, chestnut brown and dune-grass green, with a blue beach umbrella as an accent. The horses, including a foal, move along the beach in the middle ground, seen from the Maryland side looking north along the shore. Low dunes with beach grass and sea oats line the foreground, and the pale Atlantic horizon stretches behind. "ASSATEAGUE" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Foal in the herd. A small brown foal walks among the chestnut and pinto horses.
- Reflections on wet sand. Soft mirrored shapes of the horses add light to the shoreline.
- Shorebirds at the waterline. Gulls and sandpipers probe the surf near shells and hoof prints.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.

- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its airy beige and blue palette belongs in a beach house, a coastal bedroom or a bright bathroom. It is a lovely gift for a family that vacations on the Delmarva coast or anyone who has watched the Assateague horses in person.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Assateague Island National Seashore? No. It is an artistic watercolor interpretation of the Assateague shore. Some details, such as where the horses walk and the fencing on the dunes, are simplified or rearranged.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "ASSATEAGUE," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
