This Antwerp watercolor print shows the lace-like spire of the Cathedral of Our Lady rising over the wide Scheldt river, with a tree-lined riverside walk in front. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Antwerp, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Dense, fine gray-brown ink lines describe the cathedral spire and the row of gabled houses, and the river is a clear blue wash with streaks of light left as white paper. The left edge and bottom break into orange-brown and blue splatter, with drips running down at the left corner and the middle of the bottom edge. River and sky blue, Gothic stone beige and brick red-brown make up the palette, with rusty orange autumn trees as the accent. The cathedral sits right of center beside a shorter, unfinished tower, a stone castle with conical turrets stands on the left bank, and faint modern buildings and cranes appear in the distance. The season is late autumn. "ANTWERP" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- River traffic. A long cargo barge and a white tour boat move along the Scheldt.
- Gull on a bollard. A seagull perches on a wooden mooring post in the foreground.
- Autumn quay walk. Cyclists and walkers pass under a row of orange-leaved trees on the riverbank.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The blues and rusty oranges suit a study, home office or living room with navy, cognac leather or warm wood. It is a good housewarming gift for someone who moved away from Antwerp, or for a friend who spent an autumn in Belgium.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Antwerp? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Antwerp riverfront. Some details are simplified or enlarged, such as the riverside castle and the quay, so think of it as a memory of the city rather than a map.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "ANTWERP," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
