This Amherst, Massachusetts watercolor print shows Johnson Chapel of Amherst College on its hill above the town common. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the Massachusetts college town, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Clear layers build the shade trees, and fine brown ink outlines columns, the bell tower, shuttered windows and market tents. Johnson Chapel sits on the hill at the middle left, red brick with a white columned portico and a white domed tower, beside the matching brick halls of College Row. A white clapboard church with a tall steeple and old houses line the common on the right, and the Holyoke Range rises in blue-violet behind. The common fills the foreground with paths and a farmers' market. Leaf and grass green lead the palette, with brick red, steeple white and touches of purple flowers. "AMHERST" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Farmers' market stalls. White and blue tents with produce tables bring a summer market day to the common.
- Hilltop chapel. Johnson Chapel and College Row crown the hill above the town.
- New England steeple. A white wooden church with a pointed steeple adds classic small-town character.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
Green, brick red and white suit a farmhouse kitchen, a reading room or a bedroom with quilts. It is a warm gift for an Amherst graduate, a professor or a family that loves western Massachusetts.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Amherst, Massachusetts? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Amherst's town common and college hill, painted loosely rather than as an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "AMHERST," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
