A Tokyo ink print for a living room or office that likes graphic contrast. A narrow Tokyo street is drawn in black ink lines, with power lines and store signs, and a single large red sun is the only color on the sheet. It is spare and busy at the same time.
About the artwork
Black ink line on white carries the whole street: the narrow buildings, the signs and the power lines. The one exception is a large red sun, the only color on the print, which makes it the first thing you see. The approach draws on sumi-e, Japanese ink painting, applied to a modern city subject instead of bamboo or mountains. The lettering includes "JAPAN" and "TOKYO". Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- One red sun. Red is used only for the sun, so the print has a single, clear focal point.
- Ink meets city. Sumi-e line work is applied to power lines and street signs rather than bamboo or mountains.
- Works with any palette. Black, white and one red fit almost any room without matching work.
- Detail at close range. The tangle of wires and signs rewards a closer look from a desk chair.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
In an office, 18" x 24" across from the desk keeps the red sun in view without taking over. In a living room, 24" x 36" over a gray sofa or a black sideboard gives the ink lines room. It suits white, concrete-gray or pale plaster walls, and a black wood frame sharpens the line work. Echo the sun with one red object nearby, such as a lamp or a book. Pair it with a black-and-white calligraphy print to keep the ink theme going.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Why is only the sun in color? Keeping everything else in black ink makes the red sun the single focal point, so the street reads as its backdrop.
Where should it hang in an office? Across from the desk at eye level, so you see the red sun when you look up. 18" x 24" fits most office walls.
What wall color suits it? White, pale plaster or concrete gray keep the black lines crisp and let the red sun stand out.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
