A red camellia print for a living room that could use one strong color. Three large blooms with yellow centers sit on brown branches among dark green leaves, set against plain cream. It borrows the look of Japanese bird-and-flower woodblock prints and keeps the focus on the flowers alone.
About the artwork
Red does most of the talking: three large camellia heads in a saturated red, each with yellow stamens at the center. Dark green leaves and brown branches hold them in place, all on a cream ground. The treatment is woodblock-style, after the bird-and-flower prints of Japan, drawn as a new design. In one corner sits a signature-style mark with a red seal, and a small line of Japanese text runs along the bottom as part of that styling. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- Red that holds a room. Three large camellia heads in saturated red give a living room one clear focal point with no busy pattern around them.
- Drawn in the woodblock manner. The branches, leaves and blooms follow the look of Japanese bird-and-flower prints, made as a new woodblock-style design.
- Yellow centers add warmth. The yellow stamens keep the red from reading cold and link to brass lamps or honey-toned wood.
- Cream ground, easy to frame. The pale background works with a white, black, espresso or natural wood floating frame.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Put it above a sofa in a living room with warm white, greige or pale olive walls, where the red blooms become the brightest thing in the room. At 24" x 36" it holds the wall over a three-seat sofa; at 16" x 24" it fits beside a bookcase. Walnut or espresso furniture picks up the brown branches, and a black floating frame sharpens the red. Pair it with a quiet gray ink landscape so the camellias stay the only color on the wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
How big should the camellia print be over a sofa? For a standard three-seat sofa, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" gives enough presence. For a narrow wall or a spot next to a bookcase, 16" x 24" is easier.
Is it a woodblock print? It is a new design drawn in a woodblock style, inspired by Japanese bird-and-flower prints. It is not pulled from a carved block.
What frame color works with the red camellias? Black makes the red look sharper. Natural wood keeps the print warm and suits rooms with light oak furniture.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
